DisplayPort is an emerging standard for the interconnection of video devices and is envisioned as a replacement for the current DVI and HDMI interfaces. The Trilinear Technologies VF-117R Link Controller The Trilinear Technologies VF-117R Link Controller is a fifth-generation core which implements support for the DisplayPort 1.4 standard. The highly integrated design includes the Main Link, Secondary Channel and AUX Channel functions. In addition, HDCP and embedded DisplayPort support are available. The core is highly configurable and can support multiple link rates from 1.62Gbps to 8.1Gbps across 1, 2, or 4 lanes.

About the DisplayPort and the DisplayPort 1.4 Interface Standard

DisplayPort is the next generation digital display interface standard designed to replace HDMI, DVI, LVDS, and eventually VGA. DisplayPort offers higher performance, reduced complexity, and a roadmap for future display technologies. The standard is backed by Dell, HP, Lenovo, AMD, NVIDIA, Genesis, Samsung, Philips, LG, and other leaders in the PC and display markets.

DisplayPort 1.4 is the latest generation of the digital display interface standard that was approved on February 23, 2016 and put forth by VESA. It defines a license-free, royalty-free, digital audio/video interconnect, intended to be used primarily between a computer and its display monitor, or a computer and a home-theater system. Its competitor, HDMI is the current standard for digital connection for high-definition consumer electronics devices. HDMI is a compact audio/video interface that transmits uncompressed digital data from set-top boxes, Blu-ray Disc players, personal computers, video game consoles, and AV receivers to compatible digital audio devices, computer monitors, and digital televisions.

The VF-111T core ships with a DisplayPort compliant link policy maker software stack and a fully documented API. The core is available on the Trilinear Technologies’ Cobra Development platform. This FPGA based reference system provides a complete development environment for core evaluation as well as early software development.
